D.C. added a ton of talent to pair with their returning core for the 2014 campaign, including a group of rookies who will look to make an immediate impact in their first MLU season.

Cody Johnston, #27

Height/Weight: 6’0″/170
Age: 22
Position: Defensive Handler
College: The College of William & Mary
Hometown: Arlington, Virginia

Johnston will be the youngest player on the Current’s opening day roster but also one of the most exciting players to watch. The former William & Mary captain will look to make his presence felt on the Current’s defensive line.

“I think Cody is going to make a big impact,” Keven Moldenhauer, the Current’s head coach said. “He’s a very good handler, has very good break throws and he’s starting to learn, like a basketball point guard, how to control what’s happening on the field.”

Freddie Tsai, #23

Height/Weight: 5’10″/145
Age: 24
Position: Defensive Handler
College: University of Maryland
Hometown: Edison, New Jersey

Tsai impressed the Current brass during the open tryout sessions and has continued to catch the coaches’ eyes throughout preseason practices. What Tsai lacks in height, he more than makes up with in heart and quickness.

“Freddie is a great team player and can play shutdown defense,” said Assistant Coach Will Smolinski. “But he also can then come back and run the offense when he needs to.”

Eddie Peters, #32

Height/Weight: 6’1″/185
Age: 25
Position: Defensive Handler
College: University of Pittsburgh
Hometown: Doylestown, Pennsylvania

Peters might be the most intriguing prospect heading into the 2014 season for the Current. A combination of size, speed and smarts, Peters is primed to make a large impact on both sides of the disc for the Current this year.

“I’ve known Eddie and seen him play before, but I didn’t realize at the time how good, how in shape and how fast he is,” said Moldenhauer. “I really feel like he’s going to make a big impact. He stretches the field, is very comfortable with the disc and he can move the disc. He’s one of the guys that has been a pleasant surprise.”

Come see these rookies and the rest of the D.C. Current on opening day on Saturday, April 19.
