One of the most impressive rookies from the 2016 MLU Season, Kyle Khalifa joined the Washington D.C. Current and quickly established himself as part of Head Coach Will Smolinski’s revamped offense.

The 24-year-old out of Mary Washington University, Khalifa played eight points for the Current is his debut against Boston in Week 1, and never played fewer than 10 points for the remainder of the season. An athletic and speedy cutter with a good first step, Khalifa became a favorite deep look for many of D.C.’s handlers, finishing the season with 19 goals, second on the team behind Eastern Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Delrico Johnson.

League-wide, Khalifa was 2nd among rookies in goals scored behind Philadelphia’s Greg Martin and was the only player in the Top 10 for goals scored with less than 140 points plays (he only played 121). Khalifa finished 3rd in the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Year vote behind New York’s Sean Mott and Martin, respectively.

Not just a goal-scorer, the 5-foot-11 Khalifa also recorded three assists and his six blocks on the season was tied for fourth most on the team.
