The D.C. Current took on the Youth Ultimate League of Arlington High School All-Stars in a showcase game on Saturday, March
Washington had a busy weekend as the team took part in several outreach events throughout the community. The squad manned a booth at the D.C. STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) Fair at H.D. Woodson STEM High School, held a showcase game against area high schoolers and also were involved in two separate teaching clinics with local Ultimate associations.
The highlight of the weekend was the showcase game against the Youth Ultimate League of Arlington all-stars, which pitted Current stars against the next wave of Ultimate players.
“Obviously we love spreading our passion and love for the game,” said Assistant Coach Will Smolinski. “I have been coaching youth Ultimate for nine years, and I have never seen enthusiasm like this at the youth level.”
Ever since the Current were founded in 2012, the team has taken an active role in the local Ultimate community.
“Simply put without organizations like YULA we wouldn’t be here,” said GM Matt Dewhurst. “It’s very important for the Current to reach out to the greater Ultimate community and give back. Many of our players grew up playing in that community so any chance we have to reach out and give back is one we need to take advantage of.”
