Keven Moldenhauer has officially signed on as the Head Coach of the DC Current.
“Keven is a perfect fit for the DC team,” says MLU Commissioner Jeff Snader. “His intense passion for the game and his years of playing and coaching experience will make the DC Current a force to be reckoned with this season.”
Moldenhauer has been playing Ultimate since 1995 when he joined the Salisbury University team. Since then he has played for a handful of top club teams including Pike, Electric Pig and Truckstop, serving as team captain for the latter two. In the process he has racked up 11 straight Club Nationals appearances and a trip to Worlds.
He is also a very experienced coach. He coached the women’s Ultimate team at Salisbury for 2 years and from there went on to coach the men’s team at Towson University. Moldenhauer also worked with a varsity basketball program for 9 years, winning Coach of the Year honors in his first season. He continues to exercise his skills with a burgeoning high school Ultimate program.
Moldenhauer is already actively recruiting players to try out for the team. He has a vision for the kind of exciting, offensive game he wants to bring and is looking for the right people to fit into his system.
“The great thing about the MLU is that there is far less financial burden to the players than there has ever been in Ultimate,” says Coach Moldenhauer. “This is allowing me to approach young players who were harder to attract to the club game. I have some really exciting prospects.”
The DC Current will be announcing tryouts very soon and will be putting together a strong contender for the first MLU title. Moldenhauer is particularly looking forward to matching up against the Philadelphia Spinners.
“DC has a great rivalry with Philly that goes way back,” says Moldenhauer. “That is the game I look forward to the most. I want to crush them. They might be the champions of the AUDL but that doesn’t mean anything now because we’re in the MLU.”
