“I couldn’t do anything but smile.”

That was Rico Johnson’s reaction the day after he saw himself laying out for a goal at #7 on SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays. “I honestly couldn’t believe it until I actually saw it. I have always dreamed of making it on the Top 10, but never thought it was possible.”

A few days later, he learned that he had received the Friction Gloves Catch of the Week for the same play. “I am honored that I was able to be put in the situation to step up for my team and couldn’t have done it without the hard work and dedication from each player who proudly represents the D.C. Current.”

Last Sunday in their playoff-clinching win against the Rumble, Johnson tracked down a disc with a completely horizontal layout catch in the end zone, igniting the crowd on hand in at Washington-Lee in Arlington, VA.

Rico’s layout and Kolick’s big sky in the 4th quarter helped the Current win a playoff spot in high-flying style. Tomorrow, they travel to Boston to take on the Whitecaps in the Eastern Conference Finals. As for their 0-3 record against the Whitecaps thus far this season, Rico isn’t too worried.

“For the playoffs, I think you’ll see a different  and ‘new’ D.C. Honestly we’ve made it further than some people have thought we’d make it. We didn’t have the best of starts, but we are definitely having one of the best finishes. We have nothing to lose, Boston on the other hand has their undefeated season.”

For this amazing catch, Rico will receive a pair of custom MLU Friction Gloves.

Be sure to catch the Current vs. Whitecaps on MLU Live tomorrow starting at 7 pm (EDT).
